This project, tentatively titled Fish is Less; We are Better off: Boats, Engines and Fisheries on the South Indian Coast. This project looks at technologies of fishing, recent harbour construction and urbanisation in Tanur—a coastal settlement on the Malabar coast—and their impacts on the lives of fishers. I have done a few months of fieldwork in Tanur in 2019 and mapped the social change that occurred here from the 1970s onwards. I aim to unravel the re-imagination of the sea resources by the fishers and the developmental state and its neoliberal designs.
