Youth and Social Class in Sri Lanka

This project, tentatively titled Forging a new class: Sri Lankan youth in a time of transition, looks at how Sri Lankan youth navigate the economic, political and social transformations that have occurred in the country since the end of civil war in 2009. The central aim of this study is to highlight the importance of conceptualising social class in contemporary Sri Lankan society and to connect this with lifestyles of young people.

I have begun a pilot study in Colombo in September 2025 and I plan to develop this project over the next 5 years.
